*The Faith Formation year begins in September. Teaching our children the Catholic faith and traditions, and helping them develop a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, is critically important for their future of service of the Gospel and service in the Church and larger community. It is a moral and spiritual responsibility for parents to teach their children the faith at home and to actively foster their participation in formal education and formation in the faith. Please register your children for classes via online means or through forms available in the office. Elementary Faith Formation and The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, as well as Edge and Life Teen, are signing-up children and teens now. We also need parents and other parishioners to serve as catechists, classroom assistants, and aides for the year. *Last Saturday, August 12th, we had the unveiling, dedication and blessing of the new painting, “Las Tres Marias at the Empty Tomb,” hanging in the Narthex of the church. Please see the caption to the left of the painting explaining the theological significance, history and acquisition, and the artist for a full appreciation of the gift to St. Peter’s Parish from San Fernando Cathedral.

*St. Peter the Apostle Parish presently has three young men in seminary education and formation leading to ordination as priests. They include: John Bonnin, son of Janet & John Bonnin, who is at Assumption Seminary in San Antonio studying for the Archdiocese of San Antonio. Ryan Lutz, son of John & Wendy Lutz, also studying at Assumption Seminary for the Archdiocese of San Antonio. And, Benjamin Hirsch, son of Lance & Dianne Hirsch, studying for the Diocese of Austin in the Dallas Seminary. Please pray for these young men who are in the formation process actively contemplating a vocation to the priesthood or religious life. We know of two other young men of our community who are actively considering entry to the seminary through a personal discernment process. I invite any additional men of our community who have been thinking about a priestly vocation to meet with either myself or with Fr. David Chacko who has just been ordained, fresh out of the seminary experience. Either of us can answer your questions, support and encourage you. Let us pray for God’s Spirit to guide these men as they pray and discern their callings to serve in the Church!

*We are so blessed to have a very qualified and willing team of adults led by Megan & Phillip Hunter re-starting the CYO Sporting program here at St. Peter’s Parish. This is a great opportunity for children and teens to be involved in various sports. They are presently signing-up for our first sport of the season: Volleyball. Parents, please encourage your children by signing them up to make this first sport and season very successful. From that initiative, we can continue to build the programs. We need more volunteer adults to help coach and assist in various other ways. Step forward to help, please!

*Thanks to our St. Peter’s Catholic Daughters of the Americas for leading the collection last weekend after all Masses for Blessings in a Backpack, to help feed needy children to boost their potential for learning by not attending school hungry all day. This is an ongoing ministry of our parish.

*Thanks to Holly Becket and her assistants who are signing-up parishioners for the new ministry, “Reform in Community.” Their goal was to reach the minimum of 15 participation to start. They have almost double that number and will be making pulpit announcements this weekend to complete the 30 positions for two sessions for this first year. Blessings to all of you!

^✝Timothy Murphy died on August 1st at his residence here in Boerne. Before his death, Fr. David Chacko celebrated the Anointing of the Sick, Litany of the Saints, and Final Commendation with Timothy’s son, Bradley Sutton, and other family members. Visitation will start on Friday, August 25th at 6:00 pm at the Holt & Holt Funeral Home, with Rosary at 7:00 pm, led by Deacon Marty Lee. The Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, August 26th, at 1:30 pm with Fr. David Chacko as Celebrant.

^✝Jimmy Beresky, Jr., our parishioner, died unexpectedly on Thursday, August 3rd, while in the hospital. He and his wife, Catarina, have been members of our parish since retiring in Boerne. Fr. David Chacko prayed with the family at the hospital after his passing. Jimmy was a Texas A & M graduate and petroleum engineer who spent almost 20 years with his wife in foreign assignments. Jimmy’s ashes will be taken to his hometown of Elsa, Texas in the Texas Valley where a Visitation, Rosary, Chapel Service will be held at the funeral home and Burial will take place in the local cemetery all on Saturday, August 19. Jimmy served as an Altar Boy there in his local parish where he and Catrina later married. Please pray for Catarina and their adult children.

^✝Juanita Santos, our parishioner, died on Sunday, August 6th after fighting cancer. She is the wife of Rick Santos and mother of McKenzie and Taylor. A Rosary was held Friday, August 11 and the Funeral Service was held on Saturday, August 12.

^✝Chuck Munsterteiger, our parishioner, passed away on Saturday, August 5th at his home. His wife, “Willie” and their daughter, Cindy, were attending to his needs while in Hospice care. Fr. Norman was able to celebrate the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick, Litany of the Saints and Final Commendation prior to his passing. The Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday, August 22 at 11:00 am here at St. Peter’s Parish.

*Now that we are beginning to organize this new St. Peter’s School Capital Campaign, we are formally closing out the previous St. Peter’s Combined Capital Campaign that paid for both the purchase of our new property, the “Upon this Rock Campus,” and for our prorated portion due to the Archbishop’s $60 million On the Way — ¡Andale! Capital Campaign. We started that Combined Campaign on November 20, 2017, so it is just short of six years in existence. The Campaign was extremely successful and there were about twenty families still donating to it on a regular basis. We are inviting those families to now redirect their contributions to other designated projects in the parish. In a future bulletin, we will give a final accounting of the total raised in that Combined Campaign and how the donations were distributed and used. Thanks to everyone who gave so generously. We have been able to accomplish more than expected in growing our parish and positioning it extremely well for a healthy future. As a parish, we are totally debt free as we enter into this new project of expanding our mission by building a Catholic School.

*You have all noticed that our daily and weekend Prayer list for the Sick of the parish has grown longer and longer. The staff and I have discussed this and have come to a new decision on how we will pray for the sick during Masses. Starting the first weekend of September, we will have a special book in the Narthex for parishioners to write the names of their sick desiring prayer by the parish. Then, during Masses, we will do a general prayer for the welfare and healing of the many sick and say “including those listed in our Prayer Book for the Sick.” During the Prayers of the Faithful, we will continue to pray, by name, for those who have died. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in this very important and sensitive matter.

*Our parish takes great pride in hosting cross-cultural events to enrich our community. Our new Hispanic Ministry Liaison, Pepe Romero, and a group of volunteers in the Hispanic & Latino Parish Community have organized a celebration of “Diez y Seis” (Independence of Mexico) for September 16th in the Cana Ballroom. It will feature Mariachis, music by Fernando Fernandez, the great musician and owner of the Las Guitarras Restaurant across Main Street from the parish, Sheila Dillard singing Mexican songs, folk dancing, and a D.J. playing music to dance the night away. There will also be a delicious and filling Mexican Dinner. Tickets are $25 per person and may be purchased in the parish office and after some of the weekend Masses. Everyone is invited. Please purchase your tickets early so we can plan accordingly.

*Our congratulations to Judy Gleason and Christina Galvez, two of our Staff Members, and Jeanna Moravits, former staff member, who completed the one-year Parish Ministry Formation Program at the Institute for Lay Ecclesial Ministry & Service through the Archdiocese of San Antonio’s Mexican American Catholic College. Archbishop Gustavo commissioned all ministers who completed this formation at a Mass at San Fernando Cathedral on Monday, August 7th at 7:00 pm. Congratulations!

*Our gratitude to Eagle Scout Candidate, Samuel Siller, son of Gil & Melissa Siller, and grandson of Deacon Ken & Vicki Nickel, who just completed his Eagle Scout project. He, along with the team of volunteer helpers, developed another lengthy extension to the walking path at our Upon this Rock Campus that goes around the buildings, below the patio and through the recently constructed fire pit. This further develops and beautifies this property. We are very thankful to Samuel for his donation of supplies and sweat equity. Our thanks to Rick Martini, our Parish Facilities Manager, who served as consultant and supervisor for this Eagle Scout project. Congratulations to Samuel.

^✝Mary Keeley, mother of Tom Keeley (wife, Esther), died last week in Baltimore, Maryland. The Keeleys moved to Boerne recently to be near their children and grandchildren. Tom spent significant time with his mother before her passing. The services were held in Baltimore. Please pray for Tom and for the extended family as they grieve her loss.

^✝Amelia Kneifel, mother of our parishioner, Darlene Hicks (husband Ken), died in Hospice Care at a local nursing home at the age of 94. We have been praying for Amelia in our community and during Masses. Fr. Norman celebrated the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick, the Litany of the Saints and the Commendation of the Dying prior to her passing. Amelia’s funeral services were on Friday, August 11th, Rosary at 10:00 am with Mass of Christian Burial immediately following at 10:30 am at St.’s Cyril & Methodius Church in Shiner, Texas. Our condolences to their extended family.

^✝Dr. Jim McCoy, M.D., passed away on Monday morning, July 31st. Dr. McCoy served the medical needs of the families of the larger Boerne Community his entire professional life. A parishioner reflected that Dr. McCoy was the medical doctor to more than half of the people of Boerne. Dr. McCoy and his wife, Irene “Cookie” McCoy, were a team in this medical service to the community, something that both of them loved and cherished. A Rosary was prayed on Thursday, August 10th at 5:30 pm, led by Deacon Paul Rayburg at Ebensberger Funeral Home. Dr. McCoy’s funeral services were held at St. Peter the Apostle Parish in the large Sanctuary on Friday, August 11 at 12:00 pm noon. A reception in the Cana Ballroom immediately followed the service. Blessings to Cookie and their extended family.

^✝Larry Souza and his wife, Sandy, moved to Boerne recently from Los Robles, California. Larry died on June 28th. His Mass of Christian Burial was August 3rd at 10:30 am, here at St. Peter’s. Fr. David Chacko was celebrant and Deacon Paul was assistant. Our prayers and condolences go out to Sandy, family and friends.

*Ahora que estamos comenzando a organizar esta nueva Campaña de Capital de la Escuela de San Pedro, hemos cerrando formalmente la anterior Campaña de Capital Combinado de San Pedro con la que se pagó tanto por la compra de nuestra nueva propiedad, el "Campus Upon this Rock", así como por nuestra porción prorrateada gracias a los $ 60 millones de la Campaña Capital del Arzobispo “On the Way-¡Ándale!”. Comenzamos esa campaña combinada el 20 de noviembre de 2017, por lo que tiene poco menos de seis años de existencia. La campaña fue extremadamente exitosa y había alrededor de veinte familias que todavía donaban regularmente. Estamos invitando a esas familias a redirigir sus contribuciones a otros proyectos designados para la parroquia. En un boletín futuro, daremos una cuenta final del total recaudado en esa Campaña Combinada y cómo se distribuyeron y utilizaron las donaciones. Gracias a todos los que dieron tan generosamente. Nuestro nuevo Enlace del Ministerio Hispano, Pepe Romero, y un grupo de voluntarios de la Comunidad Parroquial Hispana y Latina han organizado una celebración de "Diez y Seis" (Independencia de México) para el 16 de septiembre en el Salón Caná. Contará con música de mariachi, Fernando Fernández, cantante y gran músico propietario del restaurante Las Guitarras al otro lado de la parroquia en Main Street, Sheila Dillard cantando canciones mexicanas, bailes folclóricos y un DJ tocando música para bailar toda la noche. También habrá una deliciosa y abundante cena mexicana. Los boletos cuestan $25 por persona y se pueden comprar en la oficina parroquial y después de todas las misas. Todos están invitados. ^✝Timothy Murphy murió el 1 de agosto en su residencia aquí en Boerne. Antes de su muerte, el Padre David Chacko celebró la Unción de los Enfermos, la Letanía de los Santos y la Recomendación Final con el hijo de Timothy, Bradley Sutton, y otros miembros de la familia. El velorio comenzará el viernes 25 de agosto a las 6:00 pm en la funeraria Holt & Holt, con Rosario a las 7:00 pm, dirigido por el diácono Marty Lee. ^✝Jimmy Beresky, Jr., nuestro feligrés, murió inesperadamente el jueves 3 de agosto, mientras estaba en el hospital. Él y su esposa, Catarina, han sido miembros de nuestra parroquia a lo largo de los años desde que se jubilaron en Boerne. El Padre David Chacko oró con la familia en el hospital después de su fallecimiento. Jimmy era un graduado de Texas A & M e ingeniero petrolero que pasó casi 20 años con su esposa en asignaciones en el extranjero. Las cenizas de Jimmy serán llevadas a su ciudad natal de Elsa, Texas, en el Valle de Texas, donde se llevará a cabo un servicio de visitación, rosario en la capilla funeraria y el entierro se llevará a cabo en el cementerio local. ^✝Juanita Santos, nuestra feligresa, murió el domingo 6 de agosto después de luchar contra el cáncer. Ella es la esposa de Rick Santos y madre de McKenzie y Taylor. ^✝Mary Keeley, madre de Tom Keeley (esposa, Esther), murió la semana pasada en Baltimore, Maryland. Los Keeley se mudaron a Boerne recientemente para estar cerca de sus hijos y nietos. ^✝Amelia Kneifel, madre de nuestra feligresa, Darlene Hicks (esposo Ken), murió en cuidados paliativos en un hogar de ancianos local a la edad de 94 años. Hemos estado orando por Amelia en nuestra comunidad y durante las misas. El P. Norman celebró el Sacramento de la Unción de los Enfermos, la Letanía de los Santos y el Elogio de los Moribundos antes de su fallecimiento. ^✝El Dr. Jim McCoy, M.D., falleció el lunes 31 de julio por la mañana. El Dr. McCoy atendió las necesidades médicas de las familias de la comunidad Boerne más grande durante toda su vida profesional. Un feligrés reflexionó que el Dr. McCoy era el médico de más de la mitad de la gente de Boerne. El Dr. McCoy y su esposa, Irene "Cookie" McCoy, eran un equipo en este servicio médico a la comunidad, algo que ambos amaban y apreciaban. Se rezaron un Rosario el jueves 10 de agosto de 2023 a las 5:30 pm, dirigido por el diácono Paul Rayburg en la funeraria Ebensberger. Los servicios funerarios del Dr. McCoy se llevaron a cabo en la Parroquia de San Pedro Apóstol en el Santuario el viernes 11 de agosto de 2023 a partir de las 12:00 pm. ^✝Larry Souza y su esposa, Sandy, se mudaron a Boerne recientemente desde Los Robles, California. Larry murió el 28 de junio. Su Misa de Cristiana Sepultura fue el 3 de agosto a las 10:30 am, aquí en San Pedro. El Padre David Chacko fue el celebrante y el diácono Paul fue el asistente. Nuestras oraciones y condolencias están con Sandy, familiares y amigos.
